Day 1 - Wilderness Forest Trail & Beach Walk

Today’s activities include a full-day of biking, hiking and kayaking – exploring forest, ocean, mountain and river trails off-the-beaten track, in what is one of Southern Africa’s most scenic coastal and wetlands areas.

We cycle the backroads through indigenous vegetation and pine forests, traversing sections of the famed Seven Passes on the lower slopes of the Outeniqua mountain range, before descending through breathtaking escarpments and rolling valleys to meet the azure blues of the Indian Ocean and the bird paradise that is the wetlands of Eden.

After a gourmet picnic on the river banks, we paddle down black waters of the Touw River before entering the bush and forest on foot for a very special hike on the custom-built boardwalk deep within the forest. Our destination, lush pools, carved out of solid rock over eons gone by a roaring mountain waterfall. Enjoying the forest sounds and thunder of the falls we take a break before retracing our steps for the last of the day’s easy canoeing. We join the twisting curls of the Serpentine river before paddling out to the Lagoon which in turn opens out to the rolling surf of Wilderness beach.

We shuttle back to the hotel in Knysna and a well-earned dinner.

Day 2 - The Crags Wine & Ride - Plettenberg Bay

It is it hard to imagine that twelve years ago there were no vines in the Plettenberg Bay area. Today, a number of vineyards have been established with some of the best wines in Southern Africa. Join Bike & Saddle to explore this unique coastal gem on The Garden Route. Cycle the backroads through lush vineyards and stop for tastings at superb boutique cellars along the way. After a leisurely lunch we shuttle a short distance towards Knysna for the 2nd part of our day. Here you have a choice: Harkerville Forest, offers three route options: Red (23 km), Green (15 km) and Blue (12 km). All three trails include sections of single track riding along forest paths. The Red route includes some of the most dramatic scenery in the country. The afternoon includes another tasting at an award-winning estate. We shuttle back to Knysna for dinner and the overnight stay.

Day 3 - Knysna Lagoon, The Heads & Village

Our morning departs from Thesen Island’s Long Street overlooking Knysna Lagoon. We cycle through the Waterfront with its many art galleries and eateries. After a short stop we continue and ride along the banks of the Lagoon to the Heads where we can look down on the narrow stretch of water that has been the nemesis of many ships in the past.

On the ride back we will go via historic Knysna before circling back to Frost Brothers Classic Cars and Mitchell’s Brewery for a must taste of our of a local flavours. We finish our tour at Cruise Café for a tasting of our local and fresh Oysters, paired with a refreshing glass of bubbly, wine or cold drink. A fitting end to three superb active days on the Garden Route.
