•Cultural encounters with San and old-established missionary communities
•Small Group minimum 2 to maximum 10

Day 1 - Cape Town to Cederberg

Our first day includes a visit to the first research site of the Cape Leopard Trust in Bakkranse, in the rugged Rooi Cederberg Karoo Park, abounding with mighty mountain ranges, indigenous plants of the Cape Floral Kingdom, antelope, birds and other wildlife. We encounter ancient Bushman rock art and hand-made artefacts, reliving the stories of the San hunter-gatherers. After an exhilarating cycle, we toast the sunset with celebratory sparkling wine at our luxury camp, dining in style under the night sky. This is the perfect way to end our first day in the untouched wilderness of the Cederberg.

Day 2 - Bakkranse to Stadsaal

After a hearty breakfast and first light cycle, we are led by an expert in tracking Cape leopards by foot, the experience of a lifetime! We are treated to a picnic lunch and we then get back on our mountain bikes and make our way towards Stadsaal (City Hall), with jagged peaks, stark landscapes and mind blowing rock formations proving a worthwhile companion. Stadsaal is a collection of caves, home to more rock paintings as we garner a deeper understanding of the world’s oldest tribe and their methods of hunting and tracking wildlife. We finish the day with an ice-cold beverage and delicious three-course meal as dusk descends over the majestic Cederberg mountains.

Day 3 - Stadsaal to Crystal Palace

Witness the sun rise and illuminate this enchanted and pristine wilderness over a freshly prepared breakfast and ready yourself for the day’s adventure. Driehoek is our first destination and our bikes our transport, as we ride through prehistoric landscapes, endless skies towering above and complete stillness and silence overpowering our senses. After lunch and a short break, it’s time to swap the biking for hiking. We begin the invigorating walk to Crystal Palace, crisscrossing on our way across babbling brooks, over rocky outcrops and below foreboding mountains that stretch into the azure sky.

Day 4 - Crystal Palace to Vangstasie

After a night spent under the stars and another full breakfast spread, our expert guides lead us on a walk to the picturesque Crystal Pools, a suspended amphitheater which hosts a crystal clear, cool mountain stream. The brave can dip into the frigid water while the rest enjoy a freshly prepared picnic lunch on the grassy bank. We continue hiking through this beautiful and surreal landscape, making our way to Vangstasie (Capture Station), where the only thing left to catch is the breathtaking beauty and stunning views over the Cederberg.

Day 5 - Vangstasie to Heuningvlei

Your legs may be slightly weary by now but the adventure is not yet over – the road less travelled awaits you! We hike towards Boontjieskraal, a settlement named after the Khoi captain who had his kraal (cattle enclosure) there, a delightful stroll with the wind at your back and the sun on your face. Lunch is served at Boontjieskraal and our feet take us to Heuningvlei, a quiet village which acts as one of fourteen outposts of the Moravian Mission Church at Wupperthal. With just twenty-five families here, this farming community is warm and welcoming, cultivating dried fruit and Rooibos (red bush) tea for which this region is famous.

Day 6 - Heuningvlei to Bushman’s Kloof

We hop back on our mountain bikes for a cycle to Bushman’s Kloof Wilderness Reserve, a stunning piece of private wilderness nestled at the foothills of the Cederberg mountains and our home for the next two nights. Pamper yourself with a massage treatment at the Spa, feast on only the best locally produced and organic cuisine, go fly fishing or stargazing by night, or just take a well-earned break! In the afternoon, you enjoy a guided a game drive through the reserve, a South African Natural Heritage Site, home to the rare Cape Mountain Zebra, Eland, Gemsbok, countless bird species and a wonderful carpet of wild flowers in season (July-October). There are over 130 rock paintings throughout the reserve and a guided excursion to the different sites can be arranged! And don’t forget about the five-course dinner specially prepared for your group.

Today is a day to unwind and relax within the comforts of our five star lodge! Walk. hike or bike at leisure. We return to Cape Town at the end of the day where the tour ends.
