8-14 Days | Best of the Garden Route
We begin our Eco-Active Adventure in the charming city of Cape Town at the southernmost tip of Africa. Surrounded by the cool Atlantic Ocean and majestic mountains, Cape Town’s paved coastal roadways provide access to landscapes whose stunning beauty invigorates the senses. Sculpted mountains peer over dizzying rock faces and sparkling white beaches, under huge expanses of clear blue sky. Walk among and smell the fynbos (meaning fine bush in Afrikaans) on the iconic Table Mountain, a natural plant species endemic to the Cape and your companion throughout this remarkable journey as we explore the sights and sounds of the city and scenic peninsula by bike!
We leave Cape Town behind and make our way along the scenic coastal road to Hermanus, a delightful coastal town that offers the world's best land-based whale watching. Between June and November, Southern Right whales migrate here from the Antartica and can be seen breaching in the Atlantic waters. We leave the whales behind in Hermanus and continue our journey along the coast to Wilderness, stopping off in Mossel Bay en route to visit the Bartholomew Dias museum. We travel along the back roads to explore the charming countryside around the untouched Ruigtevlei and we go kayaking along the collection of tranquil lakes and lagoons.
We make our way further east alongside the Indian Ocean and through Port Elizabeth, heading into the interior towards Addo Elephant National Park, the setting for our cycle safari. We enjoy guided excursions into the Addo Elephant National Park, home to the Big Five and the best elephant viewing in the world. Horseback safaris can be arranged and we will of course embark on our trademark Eco-active cycles, showcasing the wild landscapes of the Eastern Cape from the saddle!
After the Safari adventure of a lifetime, we head south and wind over the mighty Outeniqua mountains to Oudtshoorn, jewel of the Little Karoo and ostrich capital of South Africa. We cycle the majestic Swartberg (Black Mountain) Pass and wind our way along the famous Route 62, the world's longest wine route as we slowly make our way via the Cape Winelands back to the Mother City, sampling world-class vintages and gourmet cuisine in award winning wine estates!
