We start out at daybreak with a light breakfast served fresh from the world-renowned Cape Grace Hotel in the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. We transfer to our starting point on Signal Hill, high above the city on Table Mountain.
We meander down the mountain on custom assembled, carbon fibre road bicycles, past the imposing Lions Head, with magnificent views of Cape Town. You continue onward down Kloofnek, through the cobbled streets of the Bo-Kaap (Upper Cape) past the coloured houses and mosques. We continue along High Level Road, with sensational vistas of the Atlantic Ocean and the newly completed Cape Town Stadium, set to stage 8 matches during the upcoming 2010 World Cup.
We make our way down to the Sea Point Promenade, where we relax and breathe in the fresh ocean breeze. From here we wind our way through the upmarket seaside suburbs of Clifton and Camps Bay, home to Cape Town’s prime real estate and a selection of postcard-perfect beaches.
From Camps Bay, we make our way along the stunning Atlantic Seaboard, through the village of Bakoven, nestled at the foot of the famous Twelve Apostles. These are a series of 17 precipitous peaks (all sharp cliff faces) ranging from 700m to 1067m above the Atlantic Ocean, which cast a magnificent spell over the communities below. We stop off at the pristine Oudekraal Nature Reserve for a well-deserved picnic spread on a secluded beach with the majestic mountains behind you.
We transfer over the mountains to the lower slopes of Chapman's Peak, one of Africa's most beautiful mountain passes. After an invigorating cycle over the pass, with amazing views of sky and hues of blue and green ocean, we descend to the beach where a glass of ice-cold, sparkling wine awaits, as reward for the day’s activity.
We replenish our energy with a sandwich and espresso coffee at The Cape Grace. And after all that hard work, what better way to relax than with a luxury treatment (optional) at the state-of-the-art Spa. If you choose to opt out of the spa treatment, there are a range of options available. Relax beside the sparkling swimming pool or in the library with its fantastic selection of local and international literature. The Waterfront complex is minutes away with its shops, cafes, restaurants and live performances – you certainly won’t be short of things to do!
Refreshed and revitalised after your treatment, you have an hour or so at your leisure, before we meet at 5:00pm for our guided walk of the Bo-Kaap. We learn about the history, hardships, and accomplishments of the Cape Moslem community. We stop at Latiefa Larney’s house, a local who has been resident in the Bo-Kaap for over 30 years. Latiefa’s cooking is renowned and she has been welcoming guests into her home for many years. Here one can enjoy traditional Cape Malay cuisine, such as samoosas, bobotie (curried mince with egg custard) and much more, while Latiefa delves into the fascinating history of the area – this is a unique and exclusive experience which will stay with you for a long time!
The walk through the colourful streets ends with the muezzin’s call, having experienced Cape Malay hospitality at its very best. We presently stop for snacks and drinks in the Bo-Kaap but if guests would like a freshly prepared Cape Malay meal, instead of dinner at the Signal Restaurant, we are happy to arrange this and Latiefa Larney will provide a full spread after the guided walk.
We return to the Cape Grace Hotel, where guests enjoy a shower and gather for a five course feast at the Signal Restaurant to mark the end of a memorable day. We will shuttle guests back to their hotel, so you can enjoy some fabulous South African wines without having to worry about making your way back home!
NB: This tour excludes the cost of a spa treatment, but it does include a five-course dinner - without the dinner the cost is reduced to R2500.
