3 Days | Cheetah Conservation & Wild Ride
Our journey begins in Cape Town and we head out of town towards the vast, ancient, semi-desert Karoo. We pass through the rolling Cape Winelands and majestic Du Toitskloof mountain range, before the dry, dusty, dramatic Karoo landscape unfolds. We stop for light refreshments at a historic outbuilding, long since left to rack and ruin, a haunting reminder of the harsh environment that awaits us.
We soon veer off the tarred road and there is little between us and the wide open spaces, desert like scrub, deep blue skies and untouched African wilderness. We enjoy a guided cycle across this surreal landscape, before we arrive at Inverdoorn Game Reserve and Safari Lodge, a 5-star award winning reserve with luxury chalets that boast all creature comforts and uninterrupted views of the bush.
Over the next few days we are treated to a range of unique eco active adventures in addition to the regular guided game drives on open-topped LandRovers across the 10,000-hectare reserve which hosts the black-maned Cape Lion, as well as leopard, rhinoceros, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, wildebeest, oryx, eland, kudu, jackal and much more - there are 28 different animal species and over 1200 wild animals on the reserve! We embark on a number of signature guided cycles across the reserve, with an armed ranger to guarantee our safety and explain the secrets of this untouched wilderness. Game viewing from the saddle is a more authentic experience, allowing us to get closer to wild animals than we ever thought possible.
We also learn about Inverdoorn's world renowned Western Cape Cheetah Conservation programme that seeks to protect the most endangered large cats in the world and we can witness the Cheetah Run as the world's fatest animals sprint across the savannah! The wining and dining is top notch with African style buffets and barbeques while the majesty of the night sky can be appreciated by stargazing with a local astronomer!
