5-7 Days | Namaqualand Flowers
Namaqualand Cycle Journey | 15 - 21 AUG 2015
An epic journey with Bike & Saddle to one of the world’s most spectacular flowering wonders!
The spring wild flowers are a phenomenon that never ceases to amaze and delight, even for those who live in what is considered South Africa's "outback".
Arriving on the 15th in Cape Town for the start of the tour, you’ll be staying at The Charles, a quaint and luxurious period-style boutique guest house in the historic Cape Quarter area. After check-in, you’ll enjoy our flagship city cycle – Cape Town @ Night, Culture & Heritage, an appropriate opener to an an unforgettable seven day journey, ending with cocktails and gourmet canapés at Tobago’s Terrace and Restaurant overlooking Table Bay.
Retiring to the the roof–deck of The Charles afterwards to enjoy the beautiful views of the Waterfront, ends what will be a perfect first day.
The next morning we depart early after a sumptuous breakfast, for the picturesque seaside village of Paternoster, one-and half hours drive outside of Cape Town, experiencing along the way the first wild flowers of the region.
Paternoster, a West Coast jewel, welcomes you with a long beach walk and arguably one of the best West Coast gourmet dining experiences, served early evening at either The Noisy Oyster or Gaatjie Restaurant on the beach. From here we depart the next morning, after a sunrise cycle out to the nearby Colombine nature reserve, and a scrumptious hearty breakfast, for Kammieskroon and Skilpad National Park – where the wildest and most beautiful flower spectacle awaits. Over the next four days and nights, we escape to the land of contrasts, where every turn paints breathtaking pictures.
A visit to the Skilpad Nature Reserve is an unforgettable experience. With its winter rainfall, Namaqualand is home to the richest bulb flora of any arid region in the world and more than a 1 000 of its estimated 3 500 plant species are found nowhere else on earth.
The cycle experience in the park is greatly enhanced by staying with us, with a limited number of luxury domed tents which are set up each year in this remote and scenically stunning location in the national park itself. This is truly unique and means you’ll be surrounded by stunning flowers from morning till night!
