Half or Full Day | Heritage Cycle Trail - Johannesburg
Blue Plaque Heritage Cycle Trail
Our tour starts off with a pickup from your hotel or guesthouse and a quick shuttle up to Constitutional Hill. Here we take a 45 minute guided tour on foot of the "Old Fort" prison (where among others, Ghandi was imprisoned) and the highest court in South Africa, The Constitutional Court. A landmark in South Africa's path to becoming a full democracy.
Cycling from the court, we explore the nearby leafy suburbs of Parktown and Westcliff with its historical and elegant heritage homes - two of the oldest suburbs in Johannesburg and home of the aristocrisy (or Randlords) of the early gold mining days at the turn of the century.
We traverse and explore all the hidden gems along the beautiful, tree canopied streets and parks of the surrounding suburbs of Forest Town, Parkview, passing by the Zoo and visiting the war memorial through to Zoo lake. Stop for a cold drink at this point or just to catch your breath. Then it's back in the saddle again and on to the trendy and hip suburbs of Parkhurst and Greenside. This will also be our gourmet lunch stop at one of the buzzing streetside cafes.
With lunch happily behind us and having explored the colorful shops of Emmerentia, the perfect opportunity to buy that gift from Africa for your loved one/s back home- we do a short but stunning loop past Emmarentia Dam and the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens.
two of the city's iconic landmarks and ever-popular recreational spaces with locals, before loading up again for the shuttle back to your hotel or guesthouse.
